The piano was first introduced around 1700 by Bartolomeo Cristofori, a Padua resident. He invented the piano for the Medici family, and over the next eleven years this new instrument was relatively unknown. It wasn't until an article written by Scipione Maffei in 1711 that the piano was officially introduced to the world.
