About Dave

Raised with (and partially by) several dogs, Dave has always been a dog person. Highlights of his childhood include landing his first after school job caring for dogs and helping to raise several litters of puppies. As a teen, Dave enjoyed "Basseting" with a local group of huntsmen and 25 to 30 Basset Hounds that they followed over hill and dale hot on the trail of faster animals such as jackrabbits, fox, & deer. Dave also spent a great deal of time enjoying his families German Shepherds and Queensland Heelers.

As an adult, Dave has held corporate jobs with a multinational corporation, two technology startups, and finally he worked for several years as a commercial lender. In 2007 he left banking and decided to pursue a career that would allow him to work with dogs all day long. He started humbly with a job at a boarding kennel, then monitoring a doggie daycare playroom, and finally training humans in basic obedience classes with their canine owners.

Dave is available for commissioned work as an Environmental Dog Photographer. He studied photography under Chester Michalik in Kyoto, Japan during the early 1990's. His skills provide him an edge in establishing deep connections with his subjects. The ability to predict what a dog will do next helps him consistently capture the special shots for which he's become known. His photographic vision is to capture dogs being themselves, as well as the connections they have with their pack mates, both human and canine. Dave's mannerisms put dogs at ease, allowing relaxed, happy expressions in his portraits. Dave's action shots showcase unbridled enthusiasm for the task at hand, enjoying a good roll in the dirt, chewing on a friend's muzzle, or bounding through waves at the beach.
