About April
A E Stack has been involved in photography since 1982, and with the digital arts since 1991. Photo image captures began with used film 35mm rangefinder and twin lens reflex cameras, progressing on to Nikon SLR equipment.
But in the year 1991, something magic happened. It was the infancy of digital image processing. Armed with a handheld monochrome half page manual scanner that you had to roll down the page and a state of the art 386DX computer with gigantic 100MB hard drive, the possibilities of what the future could hold with digital processing were envisioned. Could new digital imaging technology on the near horizon finally free photographers from having to mark up test prints for custom crops and color balance? The answer was of course, "You Betcha!"
The rapid evolution of the digital arts brought with it new and exciting technology to learn, new techniques to explore, and brought photographic visions of years past to reality. Film favorites were scanned and given new life. Calligraphy and drawing, always favorite pastimes, could now take shape in electronic form.
Experienced in Adobe Photoshop since 1997 and in Adobe Illustrator since 2000, today's skill set includes "almost anything digital," including fractal work, desktop publishing, commercial prepress work, 3D rendering, AutoCad modeling, and Flash animation. Client work has included anything from diner menus to T-shirt designs to large format trade show graphics.
Photography is still the first love. The first digital camera, an Olympus, was purchased in 1997. Upgrades in equipment were slow, not because of the lack of availability, but because it would take awhile for the technology to fully blossom. And even with today's super mega pixel SLRs and medium format backs, the opinion is that there will be even better things on the technology horizon. The present day cameras include Nikon D200 and Nikon D3, along with a few specialty point & shoots for fun.
