Elephant Themed Business Cards

One of the most beloved African animals is the elephant. Most people have been introduced to elephants by zoos and circuses. Elephants come in three species: Asian Elephants, African Forest Elephants and African Bush Elephants. They are considered to be the largest land animal and they can weigh an amazing 265 pounds at birth. The largest African Elephant on record weighed 26,400 pounds and was 13.8 feet tall. Elephants are commonly used as a symbol of wisdom. Currently there are less than 690,000 elephants in Africa.

Lions

Lions are another popular African animal. While it is called the as King of the Jungle, lions actually live on the savannahs and grasslands of Africa, Asia and India. This apex predator lives in prides that are owned by a female family group. The males join a pride when it has the size and strength needed to overpower the reigning male member of the pride. Males sometimes band together in bachelor groups to improve their chances of hunting success. Currently there are about 12 different sub-species of lions.

Hippopotamus

Hippopotamus comes from two Greek words that mean river horse. These huge marine mammals spend most of their day in the water. They even give birth in the water. Once night falls they venture out onto dry land and graze on native grasses. Hippos may seem cute and cuddly, but they actually are a very aggressive and dangerous animal. Currently there are less than 150,000 hippos left in the wilds of Africa.

Cheetahs

Cheetahs are another big cat that is found in Africa. Cheetahs are a slender big cat that is designed for fast running. Their body design allows them to sprint between 70 and 75 miles per hour, however, while they are the fastest land animal on Earth, they don't have endurance and can only sustain their high speeds for a short period of time. An interesting fact that you may not know about cheetahs is that they can't roar, but they can purr.
