Library Background
Libraries come in many forms. They can be physical collections of books, reference materials and media items or they can be digital collections of media items and literature. Since the earliest part of history, man has kept the knowledge of the world in libraries. The greatness of a civilization was often judged by the number of volumes or the size of their library.
As history progressed, libraries became a status symbol for royalty and the aristocracy. As literacy spread and the cost of printing books decreased, public libraries opened up making the world’s knowledge available to everyone. Today, public, university, digital, private and school libraries provide people with easy access to millions of volumes of fiction and nonfiction materials.
Elementary and High School Libraries
The first library that most people walk into is their elementary school library. This is the library where kids learn about the Dewey Decimal System, about book classifications and about how to check out materials from a library.
