About Kris Mercer
I've been a keen photographer now for well over 30 years. I began shooting with an old and battered Brownie, progressing up to a Soligor 35mm, and then a Canon. I enjoyed processing my own B & W prints in my Mother's linen closet when I was younger, until I spilled chemicals all over freshly laundered sheets! Now I process all my photos in the digital darkroom with Adobe Photoshop CS2.
The photographic equipment I use has also changed with the digital era. I now use a Nikon D200 in the studio, and my trusty Nikon D70 out in the field. I have various lenses and accessories, including a Macro flash and studio lighting.
Kris' Photography
The majority of work I do is for personal satisfaction. In the summer I can usually be found crawling through the undergrowth of the nearby forest, which is conveniently situated only 10 minutes from my home. I'm typically looking for any bugs and insects I have not yet photographed.
When I'm not doing a search through the forest, I am cultivating my far from ample garden in an attempt to grow flowers and shrubs. I grow them so I may photograph them, along with attempting to create an environment conducive to wildlife visits.
During the long dark winter months, I can be found working in the studio. If I had to pick a favorite genre, it would probably be nature photography, although I also enjoy still life and portrait photography. I also do a little bit of illustration with the help of Photoshop. I prefer stock photography because I can shoot what I want, when I want. However, I am still quite able and available to work directly for clients to produce specifically requested images. My own website is Photography 1st.
