Gay/Lesbian Movements
The original gay and lesbian movements were focused on acquiring the same rights and privileges offered freely to heterosexual people for people who happened to be gay. However, as these movements grew, they began to focus on additional issues and in many cases they led the fight against diseases and social inequalities.
Today gay and lesbian organizations deal with everything from providing funding for gay businesses to raising money for AIDS research to increasing awareness for diseases and social inequalities.
Symbols
There are many symbols that have been adopted by gay and lesbian organizations and movements. Some of the most popular include gender symbols, flags, labrys, purple hands, ribbons and the lower case lambda symbol. When designing your business card, think about adding one of these symbols to your card. Select a graphic based on what it means to you. For example, the lower case lambda symbol can be used to mean liberation, unity or synergy.
Flags
Flags are another great option for a backdrop for people working within a gay or lesbian organization. There are several flags that have been adopted by the gay community including the rainbow flag, the AIDS flag, the leather pride flag and the bear flag. Again, select the flag that makes the most sense for your organization, business, profession or preferences.
Rainbows
Rainbows are commonly used by the gay community to symbolize the complexity of their fight for gay rights. The rainbow contains eight colors including hot pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. When selecting a rainbow graphic for your business card you have a lot of options. You can select a color bar rainbow graphic, a cartoon graphic of a rainbow or a photo realistic graphic of a rainbow. Landscapes containing rainbows can also be used as a stunning background for business cards.
Rainbow Colors
