Becoming an A & P Mechanic
To work as an A & P mechanic, you will spend many hours in a training school to learn how to troubleshoot, repair and run maintenance on aircraft. Hands on training is preferred, though some schools do offer correspondence courses. You need the hands on experience to fully master the ins and outs of working on aircraft. Once you've completed a course, you will take the FAA certification test. The test takes three days to complete. Once you've passed, you are able to take a job repairing and performing maintenance on aircraft for airports, military bases and private airfields. Without certification, you will never be able to work on planes unless you are under the thorough eye of a certified A & P Mechanic. This means lower wages and less complex job duties.
